Dipen Sinha, Ph. D.

Los Alamos Laboratory Fellow CTO & Co-founder

Mr. Sinha recently retired from the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in New Mexico after 38 years as a physicist and a laboratory Fellow. My goal is to adapt the technologies I developed over the years for the US government for applications related to health care, threat reduction, and various industrial needs. I have a very wide range of interests and backgrounds that help me solve difficult technical problems in many fields. I started my career as a postdoctoral fellow in the field of low-temperature physics. In 1983, I moved to the Rockwell International Corporation in California where, as a senior scientist, where I developed 2D infrared detector arrays for space applications. I returned to LANL in 1986 as a staff scientist and developed ultra-high-speed measurement techniques, femtosecond lasers, thermionic integrated circuits, and sensors based on Langmuir-Blodgett films. Next, I switched my research career and taught myself acoustics. I ended up developing the Acoustic Resonance Spectroscopy and the Swept Frequency Acoustic Interferometry techniques specifically to solve some challenging technical problems. These techniques served as the foundation for the development of sensors that range from detecting biological and chemical warfare agents to sensors for oil exploration. My recent research involved imaging objects with sound, developing noninvasive measurement techniques, manipulation of particles with sound including both concentration and separation, creating novel materials using sound, and nonlinear acoustics. Developing new sensing techniques and sensors for human health monitoring and medical diagnosis with emphasis on imaging that is simple and inexpensive is something that I am really passionate about.

William Wheeler

Executive Director & Co-founder

Mr. Wheeler is a co-founder and executive director of AWE Technologies LLC and provides invaluable mentoring guidance and support from his experience in growing his previous successful start-up company, CD-adapco. Prior to his retirement in 2016, he was the Vice President of CD-adapco and was one of its founding partners. CD-adapco began in 1980 as an engineering services firm that specialized in deploying computational simulations to address design and manufacturing issues in mechanical and industrial equipment. It was a pioneer in introducing this technology into industry, and particularly into the automotive, gas turbine, and energy markets. CD-adapco released its first commercial CFD code in 1987 and when it was sold to Siemens in 2016, it was the largest privately-held commercial CFD supplier in the world. At CD-adapco, he concentrated on the engineering services division of the business and was the Co-manager/Director of the structural analysis and heat transfer group until 2008. After that, he was primarily involved in the business development activities of the company and concentrated on extending CD-adapco’s software and services into the life sciences, oil and gas, chemical processing, electronics, and manufacturing markets.

Prior to founding CD-adapco, Bill was a structural engineer at General Dynamics in Fort Worth and at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis and a nuclear heat transfer/stress engineer at Westinghouse in Pittsburgh and at EDS Nuclear in New York. He has a BS in Aerospace Engineering from Texas A&M University and an MS in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. He is a member of AIAA, ASME, SAE, and ASM.
